The Iron Girl Tri | 7/20/08

The Aflac Iron Girl race series landed in Las Colinas. This women’s only event featured more than 400 female triathletes. At 7:30 sharp the gun went off and the 500 meter swim, 12 mile bike, 3.5 mile run competition was on. By 8:00 am you couldn’t help but smell the Estrogen the warm morning air.

Due to the wave start and the speed of our teammates as the race took shape the black and yellow flowed in the bike to run transition. As hundreds watched, 3 of the first 5 women onto the run course were Ann, Tracy and Ashley Mac. That was cool. Not far behind was April and Jessica. After the steamy run was over Tracy was the top team finisher. She won her age group with a 1:13, good for 4th overall. Then came Ashley Mac 1:14 good for 1st in her age group and 5th overall. Then, April in her Loncar debut impressing with a 1:18 good for 11th overall and third in her age group. Next was Ann 1:19 , 1st in age and 14th overall. That was a smokin first 4. Then, not just in her Loncar debut, but competing in her first triathlon our newest team mate Jessica Sisk came in 1:25 and 37th overall, placing her in the top 10 percent of the entire race! Quite a strong first time effort. Also, competing were Sylvie and Maria. Colleen was the swim part of a relay, which happened to be the first place winning relay. Sylvie had an interesting race, crashing on the run (huh?) Please check out her bandages in the group pic. And of course Maria stormed home winning her division in 1:55. Her time bested more than 50 women under age 50! Take that you young'ns!
