Chris MacCurdy

Chris MacCurdy started his competitive career as a swimmer at
age 12 in Midland, Texas. Since that time he has been involved
in the sport as a competitor or as a coach. A late bloomer he
had his first successes as a competitor by winning the Texas Age
Group Swimming Championships and winning 4 gold medals in
the 100 and 200 meter freestyle, 100 meter Backstroke and 200
meter Individual Medley in the Texas vs. Mexico International
Meet. Swimming at Texas Tech he was a 4 year letterman, 4
year All-Southwest Conference Team Member, and broke Tech
team records in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 yard Freestyles
and 400 yard Individual Medley.
After 15 years without competing, then in his mid-30's Chris was
encouraged by one of his top athletes to take on his first
triathlon in which he was disqualified. He's enjoyed the lifestyle
ever since. Chris has been ranked regionally in the top 5 for
most of his master's career and nationally ranked among the top
15 in his age group for 5 of the last 7 years. He represented
Team USA in the World Triathlon Championships in 2004 in
Madeira Island, Portugal placcng 9th in his age group. After a
long term injury he looks forward to 2010 to compete again and
joins his daughter Ashley and wife Krissy in representing Team
Loncar. He is the head coach for the Academy of Texas Aquatic
Champions and has been a competitive swim coach in the Dallas
area for the past 38 years.
