March 14, 2009 Loncar Racers Go For Green at the St Patrick's Day TRI |
Kiss Me, I'm Sweaty", read the St. Patrick's Day Tri shirt. It should've read "Kiss Me, I'm Drenched and Frozen." Despite the wintery elements, the Loncar Team came out to represent in Keller on Saturday and all finished strong. Ashley was in the green by winning the overall female division with a screamin’ 1:02!! Tyler just missed making it another double overall championship for the family. A slow first transition cost him the title by 23 seconds. Abby, was so impressive in her comeback by winning her very competitive age group. Tiffany and Jessica had a nice race. Mike Ramsey had a great effort and took third in the 50-54 and Nick and Taylor had strong showings. For race results click here. |
Drizzle Day in Athens - Good Racing Despite Bad Weather |
Then he stood in the TA for what seemed like minutes trying to put on some gloves that would not slide on his wet hands. By that time Rick, who started about a minute behind in the staggered swim start was now standing right next to Scott. Rick flew out of transition with Scott about 10 seconds behind. Now off to the chip-seal for an out and back cold and wet 14 miler onto Highway7. As Rick and Scott were well past the bike turnaround, Bridge began his race with the 300 meter swim. Then Brian followed about 15 minutes later. To cut to the chase, the sun never came out, the rain finally stopped about an hour into the race, and all four brave teammates finished unscathed. Rick was the speedy star of the day for Team Loncar. He was 8th overall, 2nd in 35-39, had the 4th fastest bike split in the race and finished with a 1:08. Scott got 4th with a 1:21, and Bridge showed much improvement with 7th place with a 1:26, both in the 50-54 division. Brian steady to the finish came in right at 1:50. For race results click here. |
March 14, 2009 Athens, Texas. 43 degrees, drizzle. The 24th annual Athens Triathlon started under less than great weather conditions. The good news was…. light winds of 6-10 mph. This race posed the preverbal questions of what to wear?? Too little and you freeze, too much and you waste time and then you get weighed down by the rain?? For Brian, this was an important landmark in his comeback. Almost 10 months from the day, Brian had his near fatal car-fire truck accident. For Brian, today’s goal was a safe pain free comeback race. Scott (who did the 2nd ever Athens Tri in 1987), Brian, Rick and Bridge lined up for the 300 meter swim. Scott went off first had the fastest swim of the 19 in his age group! |
