Lonestar Triathlon Festival Galveston, Tx. 04-05-09 |
The bike was uneventful, totally flat along the coast. By the time the run started the sun was breaking through, the tempature was in the high 70's and getting very humid. Did I put on sun screen, nope, I'll pay that price later. Our run was 4 loops. Good and bad. I got to see Ashley, Tyler and Becca on every lap. The bad...it was a 4 loop course. Good for spectators but not my idea of an ideal run. 4 hours after I started the event the wind had really picked up. I'm mean really picked up. Of couse it never seemed to be at our backs but it sure was our my face during certain parts of the run course. They even had to take the Beer tent down but the beer kept flowing. It was a good race, the Loncar racers left our mark. Tiffany earned a 4th in her age group with a 2:40.33 in the Quarter. Ashley finished in the 2nd female overall slot in the Elite division with a blazing 4:43 & Tyler finished 1st in his age group with a 4:21. Rebecca got 3rd in her age group with a 5:24 and I was 2nd in the older man division with a 4:46. Remember the guy with the other Cervelo P3, he got first...Old men with old bikes rock! I think all 4 of us that did the Half qualified for a slot to represent USA at the Long Course Triathlon World Championship in Perth, Australia. For race results click here. Lael |
Just like New Orleans, Galveston is about as flat as you can get for a triathlon which makes for fast times. It was cool and humid in the morning with dew everywhere. We got there early in the morning, parking was good, no lines, lots of room in the bike rack, always a good thing. While racking my bike the guy next to me says, "nice bike", I said thanks and checked out his ride.....his ride was my ride....we both had the older Cervelo P3. The tempature was about 70 degrees and the water was a nice 68 degrees and smooth. No sun, no waves, no wind at all, but the Sybil effect would soon change that. Tiffany McGinn was our representative in the Quarter distance race. Her event started at 7:00 and went off without a hitch. Wave after wave hit the water. The half iron distance was suppose to start at 8:00 but I guess Tiffany swam so hard that she moved the bouy's and they had to go reset them. We started about 45 minutes late. At the start of the bike the wind had just started to become a breeze, just a good friend letting us know it was there. Sometimes helping, other times just a little annoying. |
