What was cloudy and humid at the 7:00 am start quickly turned into hot and sunny by
8:30. As most athletes finished the mercury climbed to near 95 and then 100 at 12 noon.
That made the award ceremonies almost as challenging as the run course. In the Olympic
distance race 7 brave Strong Arms took the challenge. Tyler and Ashley both took the
overall championship. Ashley went 2:13 with a 23 1/2 minute swim, a 1:05 bike and a 42
minute run. Tyler swam 20 minutes, biked 58 minutes, and then ran 38 for a 1:58. Two
other women took awards; April posted a 2:26 for 2nd in the 30-34 AG and closely
followed by Becca in 3rd with a 2:29. Ralph made his first appearance of 2010 and won the
60 AG with an impressive 2:32! Others doing well were Lael 2:14, who raced “elite” and
Gary was 7th AG with a 2:24. Side note: Zach and Scott had an Aquabike ( official
category) match race. Zach won 1st overall with a 1:34, (26 minute swim, 1:06 bike) to
Scott’s 2nd place 1:36, (25 minute swim, 1:09 bike)
Strong Arms were sprinkled all over the sprint course with top honors going to Grace and
Korey!!! They both post the faster overall times. Grace went 1:05, featuring a blazing fast
swim and a strong bike and run. Korey blazed the entire course breaking the 1 hour
barrier and besting his nearest competitor by 2 minutes! The next fastest teammates were
Rick in 1:05, good for first AG and 5th overall, and Ann 1:15 good for 8th overall. Other top
performances were Jessica 3rd AG with a 1:16, Tiffany 1:20, Joni 1:23 ( 3rd AG), and Sylvie
1:24. Colleen also posted a 1:24 for 1st AG!
For the rest of the men, Mikey raced a fast 1:07, good for 4th AG. In his triathlon racing
debut, Seth smoked the course in 1:11, 3rd AG. Then came Chris Lane (1st AG) 1;12, Tom
3rd AG in 1:15. In another Loncar debut Fred went 1:21, then Stacy 1:29 and Bridge in
1:40. BUT, who knew the biggest race of the day was in the 40 plus Clydesdale division as
Brian edged out Tim (Tyler’s dad) for 2nd place. Tim took the lead in the swim but Brian
closed the gap on the bike, and finally pulled away with a 39 minute 5k run. It was a hell of
a race.
