River Cities Triathlon
August 2, 2009
Shreveport hosted the 29th Annual River Cities triathlon.
Half mile swim, 18 mile bike and 5 k run. Always one of the
most competitive sprint distance races in the region. Many
of the top people from Austin, Houston, Dallas, Louisiana,
Arkansas and Mississippi all converged 1300 strong at
Cypress Lake Park. Not our largest team contingent, but
about a dozen of us were there.
Once again the woman stole the show. Vic,
Becca and Alma all posted top 10 overall times,
1:27, 1:27 and 1:29 respectively. Vic could be
found winning the masters, Becca winning the
30-34 and Alma winning the female elite. Not far
behind rising star April posted a 1:32 to take
3rd in the 25-29, just 45 second out of first.
Next, Tracy finish strong in 1:37. Lacey
returned from her bike accident to do well with
a 1:40, 8th out of 52 in the 30-34. Jen K
survived the swim to post a top 10 overall
woman's bike split and a 1:46 in her third ever
triathlon. Colleen had one of her best races of
the year coming 5th in 1:48.

Top man for the day was Lael winning the 45-49 with a
time of 1:22, which featured a 25.1 mph bike ride. Young
Korey pulled in 5th in a very competitive 20-24 age group
with a time of 1:24. Morris threw down his best race of the
year so far with a 10th out of 64 in the 30-34, with a time of
1:30. Two old timers Chris (1:34) and Ralph (1:35) got 5th
and 6th in a very competitive 60-64 group. In the 50-54
Scott (1:39) and Bridge (two flat tires, but finished)
rounded up the men's squad.

We have really missed Stephanie this past month. She has
recovered from her wrist surgery and will join Vic and
Alma at Nationals in Alabama August 22nd.
